Dubai IBD FO for M7 MBA

Hey guys, I was wondering if someone could tell me how top MBA schools (HBS/Wharton/NYU Stern) value FO IB experience at a BB (think HSBC/Barclays) if I want my exit opps to be in PE/VC (open to PE MF in India also)? The IB analyst position is in Dubai.

 

A few items to note:

  1. Stern is not in the M7; it isn't even top 12
  2. Applying to business school is an insanely competitive process, especially at the schools you have listed. Such competitiveness is exacerbated by your work experience in investment banking as well as your (presumed based on preferred exit opps) Indian heritage. Schools will take a limited number of candidates with investment banking experience and these individuals may have pedigree difficult to rival (NESCAC undergrad, analyst stint at MS, two years at Thoma Bravo, etc.)
 
 

That may work in your favor given its uniqueness. Remember the admission teams expect higher standardized test scores for certain cohorts of applicants, especially Indian applicants. I'm not opining on fairness--just looking to provide as much detail as possible. We are talking GMAT scores of 750+, especially if you're a male applicant.

You can get into a good school if you apply broadly and ace every other part of the application. BB experience in Dubai is still competitive. Include CBS, Booth, and one other.
