Hi everyone! Abdullah Zafar on this side and I want to get a job in a top investment banking firm like JP Morgan, Morgan Stanley, Centerview Partners and others when I graduate after three years from FAU Erlangen-Nuremberg. However, I am really confused on how to secure a job offer from them and whether even if I do secure an offer from these firms like JP & Stanley, which have their offices in Frankfurt, will they allow me to move to London because UK itself has good business schools like LSE, Oxford and others?
Hi Abdullah, I can't give you any advice on whether a transfer to the UK office is possible/how it works (even though I'm pretty sure no firm would transfer you unless you've been with the firm for 1-2 years - but it's just my opinion based on some interviews), but I studied in Germany (at an okay-ish state university) and can provide some perspective on getting into IB from a German university. If you're just starting off (1st year of your bachelor's), try to hit off all the boxes (grades / extracurriculars & investment/finance club) and start loooking for basic internships (audit / consulting / TAS / ER ...) - basically anything to gather work experience and put on you CV. The sooner you have a solid CV, the better. At some point, you can start applying for IB internships in the UK - it is indeed possible to get in even if you're an undergrad/grad student from Germany/any other European country, even though competition is obviously pretty intense. If you get an internship at a London office, just try your best to perform and secure an offer, otherwise (you would most likely already have finifshed your bachelor's), you could repeat the above during a well-ranked German master's program (if you're okay with that), or plan a gap year after your bachelor's to do further internships/prepare for GMAT/GRE to get into top (UK) business schools.
I'm not sure why you combine "working in London" and "good business schools" - are you thinking about a part-time master's? If you want to pursue a full-time degree, why not work 2-3 years in Frankfurt before quitting and moving to London on your own?
Thanks for the response mate. Actually, I am not a German citizen but a Pakistani, thus I am looking to secure a second nationality as soon as possible, and UK is the best option as it has a requirement of 5 years for PR and a further year for citizenship, and yes I am looking to do a part-time masters to increase my connections in the industry. Secondly, is it possible that I can get a visa for an internship in London? Lastly, I saw an analyst's LinkedIn profile and she is originally from US but is currently working in the London office of a European Bank, can it be in my case too?
do you think FSFM MoF is a target in London?
FSFM in London is not a target, but it will have it's fair share of alums and recognition in London
Do you speak German? Do you have any IB experience?
There's a 3PM CET Luftansa flight from Frankfurt to London Heathrow. You can make it if you leave now.

Moving from Frankfurt to London is not always easy because of visa sponsorship, however you have several hurdles before that's even a possibility. It's certaintly possible though, but Germany itself has a lot of opportunities that shouldn't be looked over.
School & master's: FAU is not a target school for IB in Germany; however you still have a master's ahead of you. If you stay in Germany, make sure you go to a German target school (Mannheim, Goethe, Frankfurt School, WHU, TUM etc.). After three years in Germany, you should already speak German. If you don't, you need to learn. If you still want to go to London, going to a UK business school is a great option too (and carries weight in Germany too if you choose to go back).
Internships: working in corporate strategy, family offices, Big4 transaction advisory, PE, Fintech, etc. are great build-ups to landing an IB internship. Before you apply for IB internships, you'll need at least 2-3 internships on your CV.
If you have any more questions, feel free to PM
Thanks a lot
