MSc to Associate
I wonder if it is possible to go from LBS MFA (MSc in Finane pre-experience) straight to an Associate position. I will also have 2 years of leveraged finance analyst experience from a midmarket bank in a city not really known for finance.
I want to work in London and wonder if it might be easier to gain the LBS MSc and then join as Assoc at a BB or a Private Credit Fund instead of lateralling straight from the job.
Getting in should not be an issue due to strong grades and gmat.
Based on the most helpful WSO content, it's certainly possible to transition from an LBS MFA to an Associate position, especially with your 2 years of leveraged finance analyst experience. The LBS MFA is highly regarded and could provide a significant boost to your profile.
However, it's important to note that the transition might not be as straightforward as you think. While the MFA does provide a strong foundation, the jump to an Associate role typically requires some level of experience beyond what's taught in the classroom.
That being said, your prior experience in leveraged finance could potentially bridge this gap. Additionally, being in London would certainly increase your exposure to opportunities at BBs and Private Credit Funds.
Remember, networking is key in this industry. The LBS MFA program could provide valuable networking opportunities with MBAs and other finance professionals.
In conclusion, while the path you're considering is not the most traditional one, it's definitely possible with the right amount of effort and networking. Good luck!

Lol
Wow, still I do not trust this haha
Do an MBA instead
Absolutely not.
That chatbot is awful.
It is not possible, 90% of the class (targeting IB) will be targeting summer analysts roles and a few with good exp (usually in London) will focus on off-cycles/analyst positions.
The program is targeted for internships and analyst roles, no bank will consider you for an associate position when LBS has other programs for that (MBA/MFin).
Also, your experience is not enough IMO to jump straight to the associate role, here it is super competitive even for summer internships and there are people with similar exp applying for internships/off cycles.
(I am doing the MFA)
I just have a question about the MFA. Did the majority of your class join the MFA straight out of undergrad? I was considering taking a year out after my undergrad to study for GMAT and improve my profile
Yeah, most came directly from undergrad but some have worked full time for a bit before the program.
Do not do an msc
