networking M&A Internship

Hi everyone,

I am an undergrad wanting to pursue a career in M&A. I am desperatly looking for an internship and I get frustrated as I always get the famous "Thank you for your interest... HOWEVER...".

I see in linkedin that a lot of people, having same profile as mine (French target school + internship in Big4 audit), get good M&A offers while I can't even land an interview. A friend told me that it's all about networking.

Question: How should I network? who should Icontact? an analyst? associate? MD? an intern? and
How would I approach em? Should I jump to the point and say that I'm interested in an internship opportunity within their firm?

Thank you all in for you advice.
