Not the typical question on GPA

Does GPA hold significant weight in IB interviewing past getting you that first interview?

In other words, in later rounds do interviewers still find themselves culling the list of applicants based on GPA or does it take secondary importance to interview performance?

 

GPA is an indicator of work ethic and drive so if you find yourself with a low GPA every interviewer will most likely ask you about it. If you get past the first round, chances are your story is good, they will ask you technical questions to test your intelligence. On the flip-side a really high gpa can be a negative because that might me you are all work and no play, and they will probably ask you about that.

 

I didn't mean I had a low GPA as in a 3.0 but at the lower end of the spectrum for interviewees.

Would a BB grant an interview to someone with a 3.6 and then cut them in a later round based on that number alone?

 

no, they won't cut you for a 3.6...if you make it to the 2nd round, they aren't going to simply "cut you" bc of your GPA. it will be because there were better candidates than you -- in terms of EVERYTHING -- interview, leadership, experience, etc etc etc...although your GPA will undoubtedly influence how interviewers see you in later rounds, it wouldn't be a sole reason imo why you'd get cut

 

Ok good to hear. I just wanted to gauge how strongly a bank would feel compelled to hire a 3.7 over a 3.6 even if the latter interviewed better.
