S&P 500 in UK banking & finance
I am unfamiliar with what to expect from UK banking interviews (my background & past finance experience have been in Nigeria). I (subjectively) perceived S&P 500 to be something that can only come up in an American interview. Is my guess right? Are there UK-specific analogues to S&P 500, Nasdaq & Dow Jones which I should follow closely in preparation for a UK summer internship AC?
PS: Asides UK-specific macro-economics and stuff like ECB & BOE rate movements, global news etc. what other related things should I keep up to date on in preparation for the AC?
Footsie. FTSE
Every country will follow what is happening in the US regardless of if they have their own stuff. The US is the world's largest and most powerful economy. What happens there matters.
Also London is not just the UK headquarters, it is the headquarters for all of EMEA. So while the UK equivalent of the S&P 500 is the FTSE 100. The European equivalent is the STOXX 600.
Following these indices day to day is not very useful for an IB analyst regardless.
