UK IBD Summer Analyst Quality
Currently at EB in London, just bored in office right now, and wanted to write this up and ask you guys.
There were interns who used to tell me about their family problems, was constantly asking for coffee chats but didn't have any good questions to ask during them, wear on running trainers, vape in the toilets.
Another intern, his girlfriend used to always come down to the reception everyday, and one day was caught kissing his girl by a VP, which ended up being a huge gossip talk.
Even the English some of them speak nowadays is like, say nothing, or I'll shout you, or man needs to cut? Like seriously, how did they get the offers?
One intern knew all his technicals very well, however he quit halfway through to go sailing with his dad who happens to be a MD at another bank.
Formatting, SPAG, attention to detail was very poor.
End of intern projects was done super last minute and this resulted in some not converting as a result.
The worst one was when interns asked for work and not even do it like what?!?!?!?!?
Has the quality of summer analysts reduced. The quality is so bad. Is this common across the street? Any stories of bad interns? I have only been here for 2 years and moving to buy side soon, so not annoyed or anything just wanted to understand this.
Feel free to include similar stories/reasoning behind this
Has to be Laz LDN
Definitely
Name
In office on a Sunday at 5pm (Sweatshop)
Nepo/Nepo-adjacent interns
Good exits
Has to be a mayfair eb (who the fuck is inviting their gf out to Canary Wharf/the city), so roths/moelis out the picture,
Seems to me this could be evercore.
Though this is a curveball as they don't take diversity summer analysts or those who are likely to use that vocabulary. Also, haven't previously heard anything of their summer analysts being particularly bad so I'm a bit surprised too.
Obviously not pjt. Probably not cvp when they have like 4 interns. Maybe laz, if this person just created a username to meme evercore (Very on brand for laz London), though ive interned there and there's absolutely no way one of us would be saying 'man needs to cut' during the internship. PWP does have a few diversity programs so this is a possibility, but dont recall them being such a sweatshop to be in the office on a Sunday at 5pm.
Conclusion: Troll/Fake post, since everything said doesn't really match the criterion of any eb in London.
OP just seems like a wanker too. If the interns are wanting to get to know you, reciprocate?
There's also the possibility that non-diversity candidates use this language or diverse candidates who use this language didn't come in through diversity programs. This is just normal southern UK slang. You even hear it from white dudes in unis like Bath/Edi/Exeter/Durham.
.
Everyone is talking about OP's post, nobody is talking about the analytical skills used to breakdown the post....
Also keep in mind he's complaining about summer analysts in April... a full 9 months since they were in the office
Every year JPM is like this. Huge class filled with clueless people only based on diversity
Incoming SA
Please write a top 10 things to do to convert 😃
The most important rule; if I say jump you say “how high captain” then I’ll consider vouching for you when your name comes up in the conference room
So just hustle as hard as possible and eat everyone's shit they give you? I can do that tbf
Just seems like the results of diversity recruiting are speaking for themselves

From what I've heard and seen, we have some interns trying too hard, some are smart but can't handle the hours. I do believe quality has slightly fallen across all banks, think it's more evident at BBs though. I do think there are still good interns coming in but some just have the wrong attitude for banking. idk what EB OP is referring to but I suspect it's a weaker EB? Advice for interns, please come with the right attitude, if you ask for work at least put SOME effort or at least tell me you can't do it and I'll take over, but not responding to teams messages and ignoring emails is a huge no no.
What do you mean by trying too hard (and how do I avoid this)?
I interned with someone who would act so tryhard it was off-putting and they ended up not getting a return. For example, they would walk extremely fast and always act like they were in a hurry (when they obviously weren't). Another example was it was a Friday night and our staffer told us to go home and a bunch of the interns stayed to try to prove themselves. The staffer got mad at them obviously.
Everyone always says the most important thing is to prove you're hardworking but don't take it so far that you come across as weird. Really it's just common sense but some people lack EQ
Ah, the consequences of diversity/race-based/gender-based/non-meritocratic hiring.
I interned at a Bulge Bracket last summer, and the process to get in was laughable. I was not asked a single technical question and one of my two interviews ended after 10 minutes.
The calibre was reflected in my intern class. While they were mostly likeable people, the vast majority did not even have basic technical knowledge (as in they couldn't tell you what ECM stood for) and conversion rates were rightly low.
How good do you actually have to be to convert in those types of classes
The standard of converts still wasn't great (although I should note it wasn't at GS/JPM/MS where I hear the bar is higher).
I don't use this website much I haven't updated my title in years
Hi does anyone have any particular tips on how to convert a buyside (PE) summer internship?
Some are actually just not convertible at all cause they don't have a structured analyst program, so start recruiting for ft/sa again during the internship if this is the case.
My firm has an AN program. Any tips?
My old shops intern classes were 99% women or diversity.
The selection and return offer hiring process is bust. Its not based on the best talent.
Yes, I've seen really bad classes and its got worse over the last 3-4 years. Although I'm now at an EB and there's less of that nonsense now thank god. Bulge brackets are a joke.
