Best group in the IBD. Decent in upper middle market 500mm-1bn. Check out the league tables for yourself. Usually hover in the 15-20 spot.

Exits: Only one analyst in the whole bank received a 5, which sort of sucks. Almost got into MDP, went to Code Hennesey instead. Most likely opps are middle market shops with around 500mm. If you're a great analyst though, its not impossible..

The cost of living in Charlotte is huge if you consider the cost of having to live in such a crap area. Seriously, though, New Yorkers that I know who have worked there have told me they absolutely hated it.

I think the NY offices are only the real estate group. A friend of mine worked there over the summer and said there was no chance of getting hired in NY. As for living Charlotte with a family, I can't imagine a worse hell on earth, but whatever.

The Wachovia real estate group is in Richmond and is one the best (but few know this going into Wachovia). M&A also good with a lot of private equity experience.

M&A in Charlotte.

M&A and FSG, which used to be the same group, are now split. Analysts used to support both M&A and FSG, and they still may, but I think in the future both of those groups will split. Wachovia recently hired John Weiss away from JPM to head their FSG, so I'm assuming that may be an up and coming group, but for now M&A is the place to be.
