Will my gamble pay off?

My psycho classmate and I are applying at the same Canadian BB for a 1st year position. I applied with my real info, he took the rogue way.

Since he fails to see how retarded it is, I decided to bet $100 that he would get caught and blacklisted. But I'm kinda scared now that I have seen the sophistication of his plan.

He went completely wild and decided to forge the shit out of his application:

1) He claimed a near 4.0GPA and having been in the Dean's list, then forged his transcript using an excel model and the same pdf software as the uni to keep the meta data of the pdf intact.

2) He made up a 1 year internship at a small company owned by a family member of his. He pretended it was a 50 people boutique that offered financial services

3) He sent that family member a document full of projects inspired by case studies of valuations made by real world firms. That way, the guy has a fake reference that knows exactly what to say, what figures to mention etc.

4) He created a linkedIn page, bought fake followers, and set up a corporate website to make the firm look like a legit finance company.

5) Convinced a friend of ours who is club treasurer to serve as a false reference and claim my classmate was his predecessor. He's basically gonna use our friend's experience as his own.(Unverifiable because clubs only show current members on the website)

Am I about to lose my money? Can I count on background check firms to save my ass?

We're tight, but I'm gonna be so pissed if he actually pulls it off. What do you guys think?

He deserves a job just for this dedication lmao. Better start trading some 0 DTE options to win that $100 back

As much as I appreciate the feedback, I'm more interested in what might screw him in the interview process. If he gets hired and I'm not, I'll be hearing about it for the rest of my life.

If bro had just spent 1% of this effort on actually studying and networking, he would have already gotten an offer without forgery tactics.

Based approach though!

Ok bet, I got a chance then! Is it 100% certain that they will verify his academics or do they only do it once in a while?

This dude is an absolute conman, he knows how to display morals, act "woke" etc... I expect he'll make a great impression on the interviewer.

Agree - the banks in Canada I applied to pulled my transcript from my university as part of the background check.

Also has he networked with anyone? I’d be surprised if he got an interview if no one knows him.

If he's doing all of this and risking everything, might as well shoot for something higher than IB. Tell him to come up with even more grandiose lies and start the next Theranos

“Your friend” is a dumbass. Transcripts are directly requested from schools. These are checked against unofficial ones.

This ploy could result in legal repercussions that will make a person unemployable in finance. Forgery is considered a crime of moral turpitude and will prevent any FDIC bank from hiring an individual plus make them ineligible for securities licenses. This effective ban lasts for 10 years before employers have discretion hiring an insane person with a criminal record.

I’m 80% sure you need to grant permission for GPA’s to get released through your school (could be wrong).

Haven’t done this myself but if a firm asked for permission to verify the transcript couldn’t the kid just wipe is hands clean and say he is taking another offer?

Obviously a much more risky maneuver if this isn’t the case.

Again, it's not me... I don't care what happens to him 5 years from now, I wanna know if he could be chosen over me, take my money, and be an insufferable jerk about it.

Is there any way he could get screwed during the recruiting process other than me snitching on him?

Reading your responses in the comments, it’s clear that you are trying to snitch on him by making this thread. You’re just being passive aggressive and petty about it. Either report him to the firm or don’t.

Just read through this entire thread. There are one of two things that are true here.

1) OP is on Coke / adderall

Or

2) (more likely) OP is the “friend”

(maybe both)
