Changing Graduation Year for Recruitment

I am currently in a front office position at a bank and want to work in another front office position which there are not any spots for at my bank. I want to apply to the first grad roles because I just graduated and am fine to get moved back a year. However, all the applications say I need to be graduating this winter or next summer.

I am thinking of changing my graduation year for my application but not changing in on my resume and being honest about it in interviews etc. I applied to one position and seemed to get auto-denied (rejected next day) because of it.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, it seems like you're in a bit of a pickle. However, it's important to maintain honesty throughout your application process. If you're asked about your graduation date, it's best to stick to the truth.

In the past, some students have tweaked their academic schedules to align with recruitment timelines. For instance, some have planned to take a gap year or pursue a master's degree, which they then mention during their interviews. This way, they're not lying, but simply adjusting their plans to fit the recruitment schedule.

However, remember that every situation is unique and what worked for one person might not work for another. It's crucial to consider the potential consequences before making such a decision. If you're caught being dishonest, it could harm your reputation in the industry.

Instead, you might want to consider other options, such as networking or seeking advice from mentors or seniors in the industry. They might be able to provide you with insights or opportunities that you hadn't considered before.

Remember, the goal is to land a job that suits your skills and career aspirations, and there are many paths to get there. Don't lose heart if the traditional route doesn't seem to be working out. Keep exploring, keep networking, and keep learning. You've got this!
