Chicago or Houston for Energy?

I am recruiting for energy firms. I wanted people to comment on whether they would rather live in Houston or Chicago and what their experience in those specific cities is.

My most likely choice will come between either Chicago or Houston. So if you have experience working in the energy industry please comment.

My personal situation looks like this:

  • I am older twenties and have lived in NY working for a BB before, so I don't really care if I don't have a good nightlife by 'analyst' standards. I'm probably going to spend most free time on finishing up the CFA anyway.
  • I am trying to minimize costs to pay off some MBA bills over 2014 (probably will accomplish this by mainly by working as much as I can so I minimize opportunity to spend. Besides, this is a relatively new industry for me so I want to be in sponge mode)

Also if anyone has experience working in energy in Geneva, Singapore, Sao Paulo or any other area with a heavy energy presence, please let me know about living and working in those cities.

Energy corp fin or energy IB? There's no energy banking outside of houston (with exception of NY and a few scattered pe firms).

But Houston is extremely cheap, everywhere closes early which sucks but bars are not bad, food is amazing (tex-mex, and pretty much any cuisine you can think of), people are extremely nice/girls are gorgeous. Traffic sucks, but you can buy a nice apartment in midtown and be close to work and nightlife. You'll run into annoying southern people, but you won't have to worry about that if you're a working professional.

Basically any problem you face in Houston, you'll have the money to buy some sort of solution.
