Cold-emailing Senior Bankers and Global Heads
Is it okay to send emails to alums who are very senior bankers within their firms? I'm talking Global Heads, Senior MDs, etc. Would I come off as retarded? If so, what could be the worst that happens? Is that risk to great to overcome a potentially very helpful connection? (If that would even be the case).
Thanks in advance
Best case you’re perceived as proactive and a “go getter”, middle case you get ignored, worst case you come off as annoying and bombastic and you’re blacklisted. Best course of action is to get a referral from juniors to seniors to super seniors
No one is gonna black list you for emailing them, assuming you’re not weird/psycho in the email. I think it would be perceived well more times than not. But don’t expect to have a good response rate unless you were referred by others. If so, include that you were referred in the email title “Informational Chat | Referred by xxx”
I emailed 3 global heads. I only got one on the phone though and that was through a referral from another MD. The other 2 were cold
Zero downside. I’ve done it with group heads at Goldman and it’s chill and was referred
shoot your shot
Emailed Lemkau back in the day and managed to set up a coffee chat. Most seniors will either be interested in speaking with you or will refer you.
Lemkau looks chill as fuck, def a Tier 1 global head in my eyes
He came to visit Dartmouth once during Homecoming, recognized him and he bought my friends and I a beer at Murphys
