Decided I want to do trading instead of IB... now I need an internship...
I've been planning on going into IB for the last year or so, but as I get further into my finance curriculum and my own experience, I realized that I would be a much better fit with S&T. I've actually been interested in trading my whole life, but I guess I kind of got caught up in IB and the possibilities that can come with it.
The fact is that i'm a trader... not a banker.
I don't pick up on the corporate finance stuff nearly as fast as I do investment material. I just enjoy trading/investments a lot more as well.
I'll be going into my senior year next year at a top 10-15 undergrad program. Resume isn't incredibly impressive. Have a lot of finance activities, but no job experience in the field.
Any advice anyone can give me for my next year and a half? I'll do anything to get a good trading job, but I know there's only so much I can do right now.
I have a couple internship offers at good capital management firms this summer, but that's obviously a bit of a different arena. Where should I be looking for internships? I know a BB isn't going to happen. I've googled around and can't really find a good list of trading companies or opportunities.
Any advice would be great.
Thanks

Where you are interning this summer is important. If you have I-banking or something similar, it won't be too hard...but if you don't have any internship it might be substantially more difficult. That being said, you can always do a prop shop. You should send Jimbo a PM.
Right now, the internship i'm looking at is with LVM capital management. It's a little different than your usual capital management firm, in that they care more about the quality of their clients' portfolio's instead of the number of clients they have. However... it's still capital management.
Would it be hard to break into trading with this type of internship? I could also get an Edward Jones cap management internship, but again, it's still capital management, and I know that's a bit of a different arena.
Would most employers prefer a prop shop to this on a resume since it's more trading oriented?
