Deferred Start Date Advice - CS/UBS Updates?

Just received word that my July 2024 start date at a boutique IB has been deferred to January 2025. Not really sure what to do from here, but from reading the CS/UBS threads from last year it seems that the general consensus is to rerecruit. Can anyone speak towards the current state of the FT hiring market? Do I have any chance of landing an offer for this July, or should I focus on securing another January 2025 offer in case mine gets rescinded? Also, is there any update on the CS/UBS deferrals (rescinded offers/etc.)?

I was a CS IB Coverage summer analyst that got deferred. From what I'm aware of, the deferred class is starting soon matching what was communicated.

It sucks to go through and I'm sorry you have to feel the same pain but you might find a better role in the end.

I rerecruited the second I heard the news and reached back out to old contacts and found another full-time role. Highly recommend doing the same, although if you don't find anything, the deferred start is a good fall-back plan.

But, I will warn that with CS/UBS for example, the class is joining into an already junior-heavy structure and I imagine there will be a good # of cuts in the coming few months. Might not be as relevant to your situation but I would have in the back of your mind that the offer could be rescinded at any time for any reason.

Thanks for the advice and congrats on the new offer. So basically I should recruit for any offer I can get, even if it starts at the same time as my deferred offer, because nothing is guaranteed? I was planning to get a full-time internship for July-Jan until my deferred start date arrives, but would you recommend going all in on recruiting instead since my offer can be rescinded at any time?
