Flow Rate Sales
Hi WSO,
I have an interview for a Flow Rate Sales position soon at a bulge bracket bank in Europe. The problem is that I am not 100% sure about what Flow Rate Sales is and I can't find that much about it on google. It would be much appreciated if somebody here on WSO could help me to clarify it.
My questions are:
- What is Flow Rate Sales?
- What do you do if you work with Flow Rate Sales?
- Do you work with both equities and Fixed Income?
- What should I focus on in my preparations for the interview?
The interview is soon so quick responses are appreciated.
Many thanks!!

Excerpted from a Guardian article:
"You've got prop traders who use the bank's money to make money for the bank. And flow traders, like me, who trade on behalf of clients. Again, a huge difference."
"How it works in flow trading. At the beginning of the day I have "a view" of how the market will go. On that basis I will take "positions". Then I wait for clients to call, or be called by our salespeople, who want to buy some of that position. We pocket a commission for doing so, and we may make money from the margin between what I bought the contracts for, and what I sold them on to clients for."
Flow is explained above, sales means you'll be pitching things to clients / otherwise handling client interaction, and the "rates" part probably refers to interest rate products.
Blanditiis sed cumque ullam. Et commodi odio veniam necessitatibus ut eveniet.
