H-1B Discussion - 2022 Applications

Starting this thread so us internationals have somewhere to talk about our H-1B process, progress made by our respective firms, etc.

It sucks that all of us are probably missing the mass hiring / lateral spree because we're stuck waiting on our visas, but I don't want to turn this into mass self-pity either.

Sorry im a bit new to this process so this might be a stupid questions but are we not allowed to lateral while having applied for H1B? Does that impact your current visa (assume if you’re changing employers you’d have to apply for H1b again?) For context I’m currently on a TN

Before your H-1B application has been sent in, you could still lateral to another bank but the deadline for H-1B applications is in late March or so. It follows then that very few banks will want to hire an international in February, sponsor him for his H-1B come March, and then lose him when his application gets denied in September. So I'm not even looking around, even if I'm coming up on 1 year in my current role since no other bank would want to take a bet on me.

Once you receive your H-1B, you then have the option to transfer the title to another firm if you are offered a role somewhere else.

Can u lateral once ur h1b application has already been submitted though (march) assuming you can still work in the US on a TN/OPT etc. even if ur h1b is rejected? Or does that cause some legal issues
