ISO IB Career Advice!
Hello everyone,
I've been reading up on everyones posts for the last several months now, and I must admit I knew basically nothing about IB before that, so please disregard my stupidity in advance!
Background: I'm going to be straight up honest, so I hope everyone that reads this will be with me as well. I did my undergrad at a midsize TX state school in Business Management, and unfortunately didn't give a shit at the time about school or my future. (i.e. my 2.6 overall GPA). After graduating, I decided to go into supply chain for O&G/Chemicals, where I currently do not make shit! (funny how that works) So, about a year ago I decided that I was going to go back to school for the University of Houston Professional MBA program while working full time. (Insert cliche "I've learned from my past mistakes I made in undergrad, and I'm truly committed to my studies") It's just my first semester, but I have decided to go down the finance route this go round, and I believe I'm leaning towards IB (although I still do not know all that much about the different types of corporate finance routes post-MBA).
My questions to you:
1) It goes without saying that my background is not ideal for corporate finance, but UH has many different corporate finance/IB specific courses and certificates available to take advantage of. Assuming I make it out with a solid GPA (3.5^), would that be enough to overcome my lackluster background and land a decent internship/job post MBA?
2) Since I'm currently in a non-financial role, should I look to make a switch to finance as soon as possible to potentially increase the appeal of my resume? Or would it make a difference when applying for internships, since my commitment to finance would be reflected in my studies?
3) Finally, if you have any advice/suggestions on routes to take or look into for post-MBA, I would really appreciate that as well!
I'm really looking forward to hearing back with whatever advice you're able to provide, and I REALLY appreciate your help in advance! Navigating an entirely new world is intimidating, but this forum has already helped out a lot.
