Recruiting for both Consulting and IB/Tech

I've seen a lot of posts where people are recruiting for both consulting and IB/Tech simultaneously through their undergrad careers. Does such a dual focus during recruiting not hinder your prospects in either of them? I would think that if a career in consulting takes priority over a career in SWE, it would do you best to devote your co-curricular commitments to casing, consulting clubs etc. Likewise, it would behoove a prospective software eng to spend that time on coding projects and interview prep.

Is it possible to navigate both?
