Taking first job in Dallas vs NYC/Chicago

Is it crazy to take a finance job out of school in Dallas versus NY or Chicago? I’m odd but I’d much rather live in Dallas than those cities.

If it’s that damaging to my future career I won’t, but is Dallas a viable starting point in 2024/beyond?

Dallas is tough. When anyone talks about Texas IB it’s usually centered around Houston O&G. I’m sure Dallas has some PE/EB/LMM but I wouldn’t know of any.

To answer your question though, I think you’d be fine in whichever city you’re in so long as you’re at a good firm.

Why Dallas instead of Houston? Houston has better food, more attractive women, more to do , nice areas as well, decent nightlife, and is also cheaper.

More banks are in houston than Dallas I believe also.

Sincerely,

Houston banker
