How do I tell my parents that I wish to transfer to another college? (MY FIRST POST)

First time here on WSO (Please be gentle or not)

Greetings,

I'm currently attending a small business college pursuing finance. However, after some work experience with an analytics internship coupled with some higher level stat classes I wish to pursue a more quantitative, technical route. I'm interested in statistics/computer science.(been programming as a side hobby since high school) I could go for a double major with CS & stat or just a cs minor along with a statistics degree. But the college I currently attend does not offer these programs. But our flagship university does. And the last stipulation is that I'm on scholarship currently and would have to pay/possibly take out loans to attend the state's main university. But I know for a fact currently my job prospects would be much better post undergrad with the stat/cs route (the versatility of these majors, and the whole "big data" industry growing rapidly, plus where I live the job market demands more analytic oriented degrees). I'm more worried about the costs to attend the state's flagship university and how it would go over with my parents. And yes I live instate for those wondering. What should I do?? All answers would be very helpful!

Say the exact same thing you said to us... Why is that difficult? Your reasons seem reasonable - you'll enjoy it, it'll help your career, etc. Education is an investment in yourself. If you think it'll pay off, convince your parents.

If you need guidance from a forum of random kids to have a direct and slightly uncomfortable conversation with your parents about your future and success, then you need to mature a bit.

Why does this merit a question? It shouldn't be that hard of a conversation with your parents. Tell them you've gotten more interested in pursuing a career in computer science, but your current school doesn't offer it.

No parent is going to be upset that you want to take a more difficult course of study that will open up way more high paying job opportunities down the road.

Mom and Dad,

I want to transfer to main campus to learn how to do what I want to do in my life. Let's sit down and talk about it soon.

Love you,

Javier
