Interested in Investment Analysis/ Equity Research/ Asset Management/ Hedge fund/ maybe I-Banking

All,

I have finished my first year Bachelor of Commerce (Finance). The degree is 5.5 years

As the title suggests, I am guy who is really interested in learning how to value companies and prospective investments. I am looking for a career path that offers me a chance to develop and use this knowledge to make me and the company I work for, a lot of money in the long term.

Note - I am into the long long term investment aka Warren Buffet Style

My current GPA is 72 (non-US) and I haven't done a single commerce course yet. I am finding it very hard to score well in engineering courses. The reason why I am doing Engineering is because in addition to giving me insight in Oil and Gas Industry, it will provide the work ethic and discipline needed to succeed ( I was always a bit scared of Physics). Also the biggest plus to it is that it extends the duration of my degree, hence more internships. Next year I would be taking a few Commerce subjects and would be pushing even harder to boost my GPA. Hoping for a sweet 80.

Also, I tried really hard to land an internship/part-time work in related fields but failed.

My questions to you gurus are:-

1. What sort of career should I be aiming for? I-banking, Asset Management, Hedge Fund, Private Equity, Venture Capital or something completely different?

2. What sort if ECs should I have in my resume? How can I make myself standout

3. Does having Engineering deplete my chances to succeed?

4. How can I make sure to gain an internship/ part-time job for next 4 years to come? What sort of Internships should I be looking for?

I really wanted to do 5 different ones to explore the industry! :(

5. Where and How should I be networking? What should i wear to such events? How can I use my uni's alumni to help me out?

Sadly, I am not a very social guy. I guess I have to change that. :D

6. Should I study abroad? Can 1 get internships in other countries e.g US? How hard is to get into Wharton exchange program?

7. What are some reputable Asset Management/ PE/ HF firms in Sydney??

8. Finally, what sort of skills should I develop inorder to succeed? CFA? improve typing speed? Modelling?
