LSE Masters Student

Hello all,

I'm soon attending LSE for a Master of Public Administration, but there are some graduates who head into investment banking in London after such a degree. If anyone has some insight on the topic, let's chat.

Cheers!

You can find alumni and recent graduates through linkedin. Send them a message and ask them directly, I think you won't find better insights that from those who actually did that switch from PA to IB.

@Rivosa is right on the LinkedIn front. Also, when you get to LSE ask to be connected through the LSE Mentoring Scheme (email alumni office) which is basically a private network for LSE Alums specifically interested in helping people start/ switch careers. Banking Fairs are in the first 3 or 4 weeks of terms, so make sure to apply for tickets early, identify companies attending, have a convincing story of why you want to do Banking, know what area and what scheme you are aiming for. Know what recent deals they have done and think why you found them interesting, what about their culture attracts you etc etc. There will be an assortment of HR/S&T/IB all the way from Analyst --> MD at these events which will be full of 00's of students asking the same fucking thing all night, so ask something a bit different. Use these events to establish a connection, get a contact address/ # and follow up (with the Bankers, not HR obvs) - if you get the details and follow up you will be in a better position than most as very few do it, for the simple reasons that because of the brand name they don't have to.

Oh. & some companies attending aren't even hiring, just there for show, so make sure not too concentrate on too few.
