Switching from pre-med to finance...?
Hi, I'm in the science program at my university but after completting first year, realized that I'd like to gun for a career in finance instead. The main reason was that I am simply not interested or intrigued by the medical field. So I'd like to gun for investment banking and then eventually go into private equity, as I feel that aligns more so with my interests. Plus, you also make six figures as well (good money), which I do care about. I'd like to use some of the money that I get from my finance job and invest on the side too. I feel that as oppossed to being a doctor, I'd be starting much more earlier in my journey towards building wealth. I'll be applying to university's business program as well (ivey) this year as well. So, I just want to know, can you have a long-term, lucrative career in finance. For example, after moving onto the buy side, is it compeletely possible to have a long-term, well paying career that can last you into your 50's or 60's? Do people often call it quits after their 30's and move into less lucrative careers? Because I would like to keep a job in private equity/venture capital that pays me well for a long time. Thanks!
