Dealing with entitled junior team members lacking self-awareness

My team is pretty multi-cultural (half of us are from different parts of the US and the other half are international). We also work quite regularly with many foreign nationals.

Recently I noticed some biased and rather "provincial" behaviors and comments from some junior employees. I've been dropping hints to them that this is inappropriate and inconsiderate but seems to have backfired.

They now think I'm trying to pull rank on them. None of them are my directs but we're a small team and their behavior is making the some people uncomfortable.

Personal feelings aside, I'd like to be a leader and navigate this situation gracefully from now on. Ideally I'd like this behavior to stop as well as get them to actually think about trying to at least be mindful of how different cultures communicate. Any advice?

Not direct advice, but I’m curious to understand and learn from this further.

Without being specific of course, could you elaborate on what the juniors are actually doing? For example you mention “provincial behaviours” - what does this mean? And what leads from this to the internationals being annoyed?

In terms of how to approach it, just remember where they come from and their past experiences. What i mean is don’t be overly critical of them, and the fact they may be ignorant to the world around them.
