Drugs in Banking

Is there any truth to bankers smoking marijuana to take the edge off and popping adderall to grind on the job or is it just rumours made up by “wanna be interns”? Heard a few stories here and there but never really witnessed anything like it (interned at MM shop). Is it any different at EBs or BBs?

tons of snorting addy/stimulants, haven't seen people use cocaine during work

Let's be careful here. People aren't lining stimulants up on their desks for mass use. I am confident that there is use, but people are discreet for the most part.

Why do you care about what other people do in their private time? Focus on yourself, nark.

Some analysts and I will spark joints after work, that's common. I also live with other finance bros and we smoke up about every night. Takes the edge off and allows for solid rest.

I don't fuck with coke much because I care about my heart and addy is common as you can get a script for it/some people actually need it.

I am 100% a high performing pot head. I smoke everyday and have done so since college. Not once did it get to be a problem (ok, I skipped a few classes cause of a wake n bake sesh) and certainly is never a problem at work - I make sure my shit is locked tight before I indulge in the oldest past time. Maybe CRE is like that - the old frat boy image - but I don't care because I get my work done first and get stoned to the bone after.

I rarely do coke and only do addy if a buddy has it or something, otherwise no need for it. Also, you shouldn't care what people are doing that has no effect on you, focus on getting an internship "prospect"

I'm pretty much the same way. It is more cerebral now for me and a state of mind that I appreciate. I don't look stoned or anything, people don't really notice it.

There are people in every profession who do this and function, from janitors to CEOs.

Only pussies use adderall to get through the night. Weak sauce.

bro do you even know what adderall is?

Work in one of the top M&A groups on the street. I know a range of people from analysts through partners who do some combo of weed/coke/adderall.

One time I was sitting in an airport lounge with my deal team on a client trip, and we're all getting absolutely trashed before a red-eye flight. The partner after lending my associate an ambien for the flight, asks the team how much drug usage we think goes on at the firm. The VP simply replies "a lot".

My MD used to tell stories of the Glory Days pre Crisis, when you couldn´t throw a stone on the trading floor without hitting a guy with a severe nose candy problem. Also, more standard, the bankers used to leave the floor at about 11, after opening their positions, go to a bar near Main Station and get absolutely wrecked before returning at 14, while their positions were, you guessed it, still open. The bank lost so much fucking money on these trades during the Crisis, it´s unreal.
