My rent is $2200 per month
I want to buy but south florida property taxes, HOA fees, insurance, etc. make it more feasible to rent.
Looking at buying a house rn. Currently paying rent of $1,120. This is net of a 20% discount I get because I'm an employee of the developer that built it, so otherwise it would be $1,400.
- Charlotte
- 1 bedroom
- 781 sf
- pool, gym, club, amazon lockers (incl. refridgerated for Uber Eats, Gruhub, Instacart etc.), Starbuck's, dog park, walkable to bars + grocery, balcony, vinyl flooring, shaker cabinets, granite counters, stainless appliances, side by side fridge, tile in bath w/ tile shower, built-in desk. Vintage is 2017 so still fairly new.
Living in the south is dope
Yeah I live in the south too (SC)

- 2 bed 2 bath
- $2,020
Luxury buildings with granite countertops and high ceilings. Pool, gym, clubhouse with cafe and free coffee, pool table and shuffleboard. 2 grills at the pool, 2 grills at another outdoor park, 1 grill outside a building.
Location close to river and downtown as well as across the street from Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s, and Harris Teeter.
Just living the dream. 😎
What job do you have in finance in SC? I’m in college rn and want to end up in the south too but finance jobs seem scarce outside of Charlotte/Miami
I don’t work in finance anymore, but there are finance positions in certain companies such as:
- MUSC
- Roper St. Francis
- Blackbaud
- BenefitFocus
- SPAWAR
- Boeing
- Motley Rice (law firm)
- Alerion VC
https://alerion.ventures
- Lighter Capital
https://www.lightercapital.com
- Charleston Angel Partners
https://www.chapsc.com
- Venturesoft Angel Fund II
https://venturesouth.vc/venturesouth-angel-fund-ii
There are some other ones out there as well. Citi took over a company called ATD that used to do High Frequency Trading.
Using Indeed will show you some more options, but not a ton.
$2,400 for a studio in LIC ~480 sq ft.
Hopefully you signed this pre-pandemic? Sounds steep for what you can get now
I signed this post pandemic last year and this is definitely worth it as I am getting two months free upfront and the building is a condo (better furnishing, amenities, and etc.).
-DC
-$3,360 plus $225 for parking
-2 bedroom
-1,125 sf
-Class A property built within the last 3 years with all the amenities. Rooftop heated year-round pool, hot tub, gym, lounge, rooftop, dog park, 24-hr concierge, very walkable
Love the location and my building but that extra space in the burbs during WFH is so appealing.
Noma or Waterfront? Nice either way
Navy Yard/Ballpark - upgraded to a 2 BR last summer with reduced rent and a concession. Felt smart at the time, prices continue to go down.
Zero, I sleep in my car
Nice - do you have a Mobile EleMMent Palazzo - its pretty luxxxx
How did you know?
~$1,700 for my room in a 2 bedroom
Nice! That's a huge BR.
NYC
$2,700
600 sq ft
Gym, Laundry room.
Hey you can get a much better deal with laundry in unit and pool etc. If you are willing to move to midtown or financial district maybe?
Yeah I’m gonna move as soon as my lease is up this summer. I’m in Manhattan but I’m uptown (120’s) and although I’m close to train lines and the commute is good (15 min on train to GCT) I feel like I’m overpaying.
I've been here two years and really like it. Super cheap for the area and amenities are just enough. I've been in some really nice developments recently (especially in Florida) and am thinking about upgrading in a few years.
3800 sqft house in NJ with a pool on 1 acre of land...1 hour commute from manhattan
monthly payment $4200 ($2400 mortgage + $1500 taxes + $300 insurance)
What city?
around princeton
$1500 in taxes (>50% of the monthly payment)? What am I missing?
NJ townships tend to have a lot of "services"....schools + town and county parks + very nice police and fire stations, with lots of facilities that were all paid for with bonds that need to be repaid, and those bonds were taken out when interest rates were much higher than they are today. NJ teachers and other town/county staff get paid pretty well...and so that costs $$ in the form of real estate taxes.
Lol
C$2,700/mo all in, landlord pays for utilities
Downtown Toronto
2BR (1BR and 1 dope home office)
~1,000 SF incl. a modest balcony where I smoke illegally, 1 parking spot, 1 locker
Gym, concierge
10-15YO building
Not the nicest nor the most bang for buck apartment I've ever rented. Quite loud due to downtown crazies, construction, and traffic. Tapwater tastes like shit. Wont renew lease when it comes up.
Nice. Any buildings you suggest in Toronto?
$2,200
1BR @ 650sf
Chelsea co-op
Lobby with secure package room, elevator, laundry room, 50 feet from train station
I have no idea how you guys are paying so little.
I'm looking at some choices ranging from $4200 - $5000 for 2-3 bedrooms, some condos, some single family homes in CT/NYC.
Many people here are 1-3 yrs in, and a large majority will share an apartment (and I would imagine you normally get extremes on posts like these, great deals or spend a lot, although not seeing the second bucket). I think when I first started I spent $800/mo (with a roommate, lower COL area) and first place in nyc was $1500 (still with a roommate). Own a place now and I’m further along in my career, so costs are much higher.
Lakeview in Chicago, 3bed 2bath, $1,100 got a great discount for covid.
4,000, 2 bed 2 bath UWS by Lincoln Center, 1,100 sq. ft., 35th floor. Doorman / concierge etc. etc.
i might be on the 36th floor
2500€ + 250€ maintenance
munich
very center
old renovated building
125 qm2
no amenities
In London - my flatmate and I are both paying GBP 1350 each all in for a pretty nice place in St John's Wood. Probably on the higher side compared to most people I know here tbh, typical range is more like GBP 900-1200 each.
interested to hear about Houston
Rent a ~2,000 square foot, 2 bedroom house for $1,800.
left houston comment below
Montreal CAD$1570 + $225 Parking + Utilities. Central location.
Gym, rooftop pool, ~600 sqft 1-bedroom
$1,050, roommates under $1,000 so ~$2,900 total
Htine Texas
3br/3.5 bath House
2,000 sq ft
6200/mo gross, net effective probably 4600 after negotiating some steep COVID concessions.
High rise building with staff/amenities
900 sqft 1BR with 850 sqft private terrace
Chelsea, NYC
Nice. Are you planning to stay long term? When your lease renews, I’m assuming they will increase the rent off of the gross rate rather than the net rate.
Do you pay it alone or do you live with someone?
