Insider Trader Wins Election
Representative Chris Collins was recently indicted in August. Sure enough, he still runs for office and wins.
What would convince people to vote for this guy?
- Tell son and entire family about insider information
- Get indicted for insider trading
- Still run for office even though indicted
- Actually win
I have a feeling a lot of people don't really understand what insider trading is, and more importantly, don't give a shit about it since the damage done by the crime is intangible to them.
Then again Beto got a DUI (albeit 20 years ago) -- something which has very tangible consequences and many can relate to -- and still almost beat Cruz, so I honestly don't know.
Think about how dumb the average person is and then think about half the people being even dumber than that
Beto got a DUI 20 years ago.... Chris Collins just got indicted. Is that really an apples to apples comparison?
You're not considering the fact that Republicans can do anything they want in this country.
Yes, I didn't think of that when I wrote my comment -- editing
The average person probably doesn't think that insider trading impacts them directly just from the term "insider"... they likely have no idea how insider trading can impact the markets overall and how it can impact even their own indirect involvement, if say they own a mutual fund that contains that insider-impacted stock.
There’s even threads on here wondering why it is illegal:

I think 2018 is a weird year to be surprised about winning politicians not being good people.
It doesn't really affect his constituents so it didn't seem to matter on a local level. If he embezzled from the funds of a project for the city or something.. even if it was 5% of the money made from insider trading, he would've got blown out.
Yeah but what about the emails tho
Unfortunately, lots of people do not care about the character of a person these days. They would rather vote for a alleged criminal than vote for someone of the other party.
I think the most surprising thing last night was how close Beto was to winning Texas. GOP governor won overwhelmingly in the state. Just goes to show both republicans and democrats hate Ted Cruz.
I found that race really interesting. People who were born in Texas favored Beto slightly, but people who were born elsewhere and moved to Texas favored Cruz heavily.
Interesting if true. Do you have a source? I would've figured it was the other way around.
Cruz isn’t well liked, Beto spent double what Cruz did and had endless Hollywood and press support. I’ve never heard about Cruz’s past challenges, but I’ve heard endlessly about Beto.
I’d be shocked if he wasn’t close. And yet he still lost by a comfortable margin. Thank god.
If a guy like Cruz would not stand up for his wife or his father after they were attacked by the POTUS, how can you trust him to stand up for the state of Texas?
Debbie Wasserman Schultz was re-elected. I don't think anyone can complain about anyone else after that.
What? Why wouldn't people be able to complain? Both Duncan Hunter and Chris Collins got elected while facing felonies. Debbie is an establishment dem and a weirdo. To equate her to indicted possible CRIMINALS is insane.
Please stop using common sense in your responses.
