Sex with a VP

Summer intern here (burner account)

On Friday after work, a bunch of the interns, analysts, associates and VPs went to happy hour after work. I ended up going home with my VP and stayed the night at his place. Is this going to jeopardize my return offer? How do I continue working with him without making things awkward?

Hopefully you said "no homo" after the act

You have to say it before or it doesn’t count.

Honestly? I'd consider looking for a FT job elsewhere.

Look we all make mistakes, but you have to separate your personal life from that of work.

Best Case Scenario: VP and you admit that it was a mistake, and you move forward and try to be the most professional you can be. There are no rumors on you, and you'll get a return offer and you won't be in a hostile work environment.

The worst case scenario is (under the assumption that you will not do it again):

Besides the obvious predatory nature of a VP and you sleeping together, you're going to have to deal with that in every deal you work with him. Every conversation, every sellside mandate you're on, you are going to have to live with that over you, not to mention the obvious office rumors that will show up as people must have seen you leave with the VP.

And if he makes another advance and you say no? You think he won't put that against you? Say goodbye to the best deals. Buyside recruiting will be much more difficult as you were put on the backend while others got the live deal experience. HR will protect the firm, of course.

idk if predatory is a good word. Playing devils advocate, this girl is a rising senior so 21 going on 22, and a VP can be a 2 year analyst/3 year associate promote putting him at 27 for arguments sake. That's fair game bro from an age perspective

Tell HR, get him fired, you're guaranteed a position for life because you always get to hang that wrongful termination suit over their head.

Enjoy the free bucks

Pretty sure there is a VP at one of the BBs that has done this. She hasn't been promoted in 6-7 years, shows up late to every meeting and doesn't do shit for work on her product team. I cannot find any other explanation.

I'm quite jealous IWBH.

I know it's sort of a joke but I disagree with this advice.  HR is extremely cliquey and unreliable, that could be the outcome but it could very well be the opposite for you.  You never know, the HR manager could be some fat lady who's bitter and jealous and from then on makes your life hell at the firm.  Or is best friends with that VP and will side with him.

It'll absolutely effect your return offer, either because your VP will smarten up and realize what a stupidly risky decision it was, how it's a liability to have you around, and proceed to show you the door OR he'll ensure you get the offer to keep you around because you're a good time. There's a chance it was a 1-off thing and you two never speak of it again, but I wouldn't take those odds in today's market. How you perform from now on takes a back seat to either of the 1st 2 options, so congratulations. You did the one thing that everyone sensible on this forum explicitly tells anyone who asks not to do - you shat where you eat. At least the sex was good though! Good luck to you.

If it doesn’t become gossip you’re probably fine. Don’t tell anyone else at the firm about it, not even that other intern who you think is your pal for the summer.

I’m assuming the VP will keep his mouth shut too (plenty of reason to) but maybe remind him that you still want to work there and your offer could get killed if people find out.

If and when you go back for FT, look to be in a different group than him.

If you can get to the end of the summer without people knowing, all is forgotten a year later when FT begins.

I hooked up with a direct subordinate once, we just agreed it’s one and done and never to be spoken of. We worked together fine for another couple years and are still friends today.

People don’t have to freak out, but someone will which is why silence is key.

Never Happened.

If you're a hot girl who's 21, I have no idea why you would bang a banking VP with limited to no job security (and that too to jeopardize your return offer.)

In all srs bigger fuck up to be the VP in this situation than the intern imo

Yeah exactly - much more to lose.

Assuming this is in NYC, I find it hilarious that this guy risked his career to sleep with an intern in a city of >8 million people. You're literally always a few thumb movements and 3-4 hours away from getting laid by a reasonably hot 21 year old fashion "student" this time of year. This hypothetical guy seems irrational.

That said this thread is the product of some strange person's imagination

A few reasons:

1. The vast majority of guys cannot get laid in 3-4 hours on a dating app and are thirsty as fuck.

2. Dating app matches are based purely off attractiveness, whereas real life dating is based off attractiveness and charm so he could use charisma to attract women that he couldn't get on Tinder alone

3. The fact that they work together means they have hours in the day to flirt, joke, etc. and it's not as forced as just a cold approach in a bar

Emphasis on #1.  My dad once worked with some thirsty ass dude who tried to waive the rest of the interview process for some mildly attractive woman because she was 'just so smart!'
