Trump wants to stop Immigration, also all Visa processes stopped.

https://edition.cnn.com/2020/04/20/politics/donal…

I guess this will affect a lot of internationals coming to the US ... I know that many will be affected by this as the banks also hired internationsl for their class of 2020.

Oh look - a red meat for the base wedge issue to distract from his historic failure of a coronavirus response and plummeting approval ratings as a result.

No one could have predicted this!

There were so many rumors before this decision was made, obviously this was expected to come. Pretty much all countries around the world have sky-high unemployment by now and, in theory, the initial reaction would be to no longer issue work permits or visas to foreigners. On the surface it wouldn't make political sense for any nation to bring foreigners into your job market when millions of your own are waiting in the breadline. Needless to say the immigration system in many places need to be reformed because specialists in tech, medicine and science are in demand (now more than before) and nobody knows which visa programs will survive this scenario.

This decision may bring issues for business schools and the international students they want to attract, but also deteriorates the outlook for intl. students as they might have to go to their home countries soon.

Plenty of people on here are line managers: 1) A person from abroad who worked hard, took out loans and put everything on the line to get to the US to get a shot at the American Dream 2) A US citizen without a job, but with a mortgage and mouths to feed.

Who would you hire in this situation?

I am normally not in agreement with the POTUS on issues but I would have to think about this one for a while. With unemployment skyrocketing, it might make sense to slow down immigration. I would never be opposed to people coming here who have fled from terrible situations but I might consider slowing down the flow for the people have no reason to leave their country other than to get a higher paying job here.

Once again, it could be worse. The Italian govt wants to create permits for jobseekers (thus without an offer) while having something like one third of the workforce without a job.

Never discuss with idiots, first they drag you at their level, then they beat you with experience.
