What is the Best Piece of Advice You've Received?

After recently losing my job and getting rejected other opportunities, I've decided to do some reflecting (much easier given the current environment) and remind myself of some of the advice I was given during university and internships.

One of my favourites is from my corporate finance professor who said: "even if you don't get the job, make sure you stay in contact with the person who interviewed you. Especially if it was final rounds".

Or more metaphorically, during one of my internships, my PM said: "Life is like a game of golf, give it your best swing and you'll land where you want". Mind you this was after a night out so it didn't quite come out like that.

What is the best advice you have received, be it personal or professional?

"If you're the smartest or dumbest person in the room, you're in the wrong place". Easy to interpret multiple ways but the way it was explained to me was that if you're the dumbest, learn so that you are the smartest and when you become the smartest, move to somewhere else/meet new people so you keep learning. Its one of those "philosophical" quotations about always looking to learn more and new skills, but I'd never heard it phrased like that.
