Don’t. Lots of watch guys in this industry and as meticulous as bankers are they’ll spot the fake. Just save your money it’s a down market anyways and you can buy retail.

I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume this is a fake because you don't want to wear the real thing out in risker places/late at night. Look at  r/reptime for a link to a good replica seller. Some of those superclones are sub-$700 and look shockingly good from the outside.

I don't agree with the advice above. Bonuses were bad this year, of course people want a fake.

As someone who owns a real Omega, I think buying a fake is a nice way to test how much you want to get into the watch game. Plus, who cares? If people want to stare at your Omega and call you out, it's probably 24 year olds who blew their bonus on a Rolex b/c everyone else is doing it, not a 35 year old with a family who just wants to network and build and doesn't have time for that BS.

Just buy a fake. I have a fake Moncler and love it. The $1000 I saved is likely either invested (i.e., you can be smart), or blown on something else that's nice like good shoes or a cashmere cardigan or whatever (i.e., have fun, have your cake and eat it too).

...just don't buy a fake that's so obviously off (i.e., Rolex doesn't sell that color combo).

Going to actually answer this question given that good fakes are pretty much indiscernible from genuine watches for top brands.  And until the ridiculous wait time / bullshit waitlist dynamic is resolved, I fully support buying a fake to test your interest.

Join the reptime subreddit / join the discord and read up on good factories and resellers.  jtime (dot) io is legit as are a couple other resellers.  They are all based in china so you will have to transact using crypto and deal with a long delivery time.

Go watch youtube videos on side-by-side comparisons of genuine versus top-tier fakes you will see that you literally cannot tell the difference unless you directly view the movement behind the caseback or take the watch under a microscope.  The poster saying that you shouldnt do this in an industry like banking due to the 'meticulous' nature of coworkers is full of shit - literally no one can tell and the only red flag you may raise is if you buy a fake that is so clearly outside of your ability to purchase (ie, an analyst wearing a patek or a gold rolex)

I bought a fake Rolex in Chinatown NYC for my nephew’s bday one year - he loved it.

I'm sure staring down at your wrist and seeing a fake Tudor every day will make you feel golden. That "I made it" feeling.

IMO the point of getting a watch is for yourself to appreciate it. The intricate details, the quality of the movement, etc. If you cannot afford a Rolex and buy a fake to try to show off the incongruence will just make you look shallow and pathetic.

If Rolex and Tudor are outside your price range, get a decent quality watch from a respectable brand which is a bit more affordable like Seiko, Baltic, Longines, Sinn, Oris, Hamilton, Tissot, Christopher Ward, etc. These are all respectable and offer interesting high quality watches, and are often in collections of people who also have much more expensive Rolexes, Omegas, etc. so they are by no means not just poor man's watches.

Also, I'd personally recommend going for models which are a bit more unusual that you personally find interesting, rather than the models everyone else have like a Rolex Sub or a Tudor BB58.

An alternative to fakes are homage watches from microbrands / entry-level brands. They usually have a Sellita or Miyota movement but the design can look a lot like a Rolex. There is a range of similarity from straight copies to their own interpretation. Brands like Steinhart, Squale, Islander, Traska, Baltic, Yema could have watches that scratch the itch of a sub or GMT.
