Could someone explain something about the Big 4?

So I know they offer: Audit, Tax, Financial Advisory and Consulting services but I've also heard people on WSO say they offered Corporate Finance/M&A as well. So basically what I'm asking is:

1- Which service branch is their Corporate Finance/M&A team apart of?

2- Do all the Big 4 hire people for Audit/Tax/Consulting/Advisory?

3- Could someone from each of the 4 branches make Partner?

4- How does their pay compare? I assume it goes from lowest to highest: Tax, Audit, Advisory, Consulting. Is this generally accurate?

Thanks

  1. Their M&A/CF departments are usually branded as 'deal advisory'
  2. Yes, now they all hire in all 4 areas with some of them being stronger in certain areas
  3. Probably yes, although if how much revenue you make for the firm is a criteria they use for allocating partnerships, people in certain branches will have a tougher time than others
  4. Pay (at least in the UK and I know for consulting mainly) is below MBBs and Tier 2s.

G-I the pharma guy:

That's not 100 percent true. Some firms have limited their external audit functions because the risks are too high.
