Accounting to Analyst
I am a recent grad. looking for a position in Financial Services, Asset Mgt./Research or related firm. I just completed Level I CFA and feel comfortable about passing it. Now I am looking for an entry-level position in one of these fields, I understand the usual PE Analyst pre-req is IBD Analyst. However, I have an opportunity as a staff accountant at one of the larger PE shops, is there even a chance I would have the opportunity to move from back office to PE Analyst later down the road? In other words, could this opportunity be used to get into the shop and move within the firm to other depts? I enjoy accounting but want to be in an analyst role later on.
Thanks for any advice.
Thats a great question.
I have no idea what the answer is, but have wondered it myself. When I was with the Big 4 I considered trying to take this route. I bet it's fairly difficult, but the CFA can't hurt you. Anyone hear of this being done?
vandeja, how did you move from big 4 to finance, im curious for myself.
If you want to go into Finance go straight into Finance. Don't f*ck around with a back office job. It is very rare to switch from the back office to the front. Just keep looking.
What would be your suggested plan? Just wait until I can find an entry level analyst position? Esp. since I missed my opportunity to get into IBD? This is at a top tier shop and where I want to be, just in a diff position? Is there not much lateral movement in PE, i guess is my question?
