Arrowroot Capital Info/Comp/Culture

Hey Guys! Any info on Arrowroot Capital in LA would be appreciated. It seems like they downsized their fund from $177mm fund 3 to $62mm fund 4. How should I think about this? They also have a SPAC vehicle it seems like. What's their reputation in the growth equity scene?

Funniest

Raising a smaller fund than the last raise is not a good sign. Almost every PE/VC fund you see in the market today will raise more money each time they go out to market. Arrowroot was looking for $300M for Fund IV so they fell short. The firm is not a leader in the space by any means but it could be a very good entry point if you are interested in growth investing and are willing to stick in the industry for a while. Analysts often pivot to a larger fund after a year. Comp is below market compared to other growth shops that hire Analysts out of school.

Agree with the above, but I'd put an even larger caution around the "downround" funding. Given they invest in tech/growth and went from a $300M target to only being able to close ~$100M, that means the fund is likely performing very poorly. Almost all VCs and tech investors in general have been doing well given the economy, to be doing poorly means that Arrowroot either picked particularly poor investments or didn't execute well on the deals. Capital is abundant so an inability to raise money is a big red flag. If you have no other options, this would be an ok choice to gain some experience, but I'd probably look elsewhere.
