Bored & tired

Hi everyone - I’ve been feeling lack of motivation to do well in my job and am gravitating towards tasks I find “easy” and “brainless” to the extent possible.

All throughout life I’ve been an extremely hard worker, which is how I’ve gotten to where I am today, but I’ve become increasingly disillusioned by the value proposition of working in finance from both a fulfillment and hours perspective.

I don’t want to climb the PE ladder. Plan is just to coast as much as possible and collect the paycheck duration associate program, then leave finance.

Any thoughts? Advice? Should I care more?

Hey there! It sounds like you're going through a tough time, and trust me, you're not alone in this. Many people in the finance industry have felt the same way at some point. Here are a few thoughts:

  1. Reevaluate Your Goals: It's okay to not want to climb the PE ladder. Everyone has different career aspirations and it's important to align your work with your personal goals. If you're not finding fulfillment in your current role, it might be time to think about what truly interests you.

  2. Work-Life Balance: The finance industry is notorious for its long hours, but remember, it's important to maintain a healthy work-life balance. If you're feeling burnt out, it might be worth exploring roles within the industry that offer more flexibility.

  3. Networking: Use this time to network and explore other areas of finance that might interest you. The WSO Academy has a great Networking Guide that could be helpful.

  4. Professional Development: Consider investing in your professional development. The WSO Academy offers resources on Investment Banking Prep and Behavioral Techniques that could help you navigate your career path.

  5. Self-Care: Lastly, don't forget to take care of yourself. It's okay to take a step back and focus on your mental health.

Remember, it's your career and you have the power to shape it in a way that suits you best. Don't feel pressured to stick to a path that doesn't bring you satisfaction.
