Insecure About Progression

Find myself thinking about work and career progression more and more. Been in my job as a PE Analyst for nearly 3 years (joined as a Grad and still on pre-Covid salaries) but promotion cycle will not be until next year. Seeing all my friends who are ahead of me in their careers and making a lot more (especially since I did a Masters) makes me sad and insecure. Keep coming back to WSO every night after work to look at comp data (haven't been on the site since intern days). Also tried recruiting for Associate role elsewhere but market is tough this year.

Any advice to someone in my spot / stop worrying about progression?

To be honest, if you care about this stuff, it never ends. I felt the same and realized there will always be someone more accomplished than you in the world. Even when I got the top IB or top PE jobs, you continue to feel inferior / insecure so I would try to find some satisfaction in other parts of life as well.

Comparison is the thief of joy.

Get a hobby outside of work, remember you don't live to work. Coming on WSO every night to look at comp data will drive you insane and miserable for the best years of your life.
