The LA PE market is significantly smaller than NYC / SF / Chicago. LA BB and EB analysts often comprise the bulk of PE associate classes followed by SF and NYC analysts looking to make the move to Southern California. Would imagine it would be difficult to compete with these individuals and sell your “Why LA” story coming from London. There are a couple PE firms in LA which also have London offices, so could be more feasible to recruit for the European locations and then internally transfer to Southern California (I have seen this done before.)

Not to crush your dream but it will be fucking hard because:

1) how standardized recruiting in the US is - no way you make it to on-cycle, best bet would be to recruit from an MBA in the US after having done PE in Europe 2) I am assuming you need visa sponsorship you’ll really struggle 3) there is already so much good talent with a local network in SoCal/the US.

I think it’s a tough, the main reason being that the LA PE market is honestly pretty small with a handful of larger funds and some mid market players. For the mid market guys, I would say your best bet is to get in touch with them directly as they don’t usually stick to the formal processes of some of the larger guys.

If you’re at a large bank the easiest thing which I’ve seen people do is move to the US office for a 3rd year analyst stint (this is more easily done at certain banks than others and maybe more difficult now with the visa stuff happening) and then recruit from there.
