London - Incoming introdution call with HH

Hey fellow monkeys,

I got my first intro call (15 minutes) lined up with a reputable HH based in London next week and was wondering what to expect?

I assume that they'll test if I could be a good fit for their future mandates as I am still to begin working FT this summer at a lower-tier BB in London. I thought about preparing the basic questions (good intro, speak about my background / experiences in detail) but I am wondering what position I should adopt? Should I directly say that I am interested to recruit for PE? Should I emphasize that I would like to be considered for MF roles (too cocky?) ? Should I also prepare some funds that I would be interested in and so prepare why based on funds' strategy?

Long story short I would just know how to best prepare myself to make a good impression and not look aggressive even though I would like to move to MF PE asap.

Thanks a lot for your inputs!

Not in IB but 90% of intro calls I've had with HHs are just a junior trying to develop a base. Relatively informal - what do you do now, where do you want to go (can even say you don't know, they'll ask when you think you might know), here are the opps we have now, do you have any questions, send me your CV.

Pretty much how most have gone.

Thanks for that. Wouldn't I sound too cocky / pretentious?

Why would it be cocky? You'd be surprised how many people genuinely don't want to work at MFs after having gone through their IB stint.

If you are precise in specifying what you are looking for, you'll also have the benefit of not being contacted by HHs for opportunities that you'd never pursue, and having to say no to the HHs . That way, if they have uninteresting opportunities, you can remind them of your preference.

However, to be fully blunt, working at a lower-tier BB is definitely going to be an uphill battle in London, considering how little spots at MFs are available per year.

Didn't think about it that way indeed.. thanks for that.

Do you think that 1 MF internship + 2 European languages could offset the disadvantage of starting at a lower-tier BB?
