PE GPA / Transcript Check

Can anybody confirm if PE or buyside firms in general will ask for your college transcripts or any other score reports (e.g. SAT, GMAT) to confirm what you have stated on your resume? Can employers get any of these from the university or institution without your permission?

Thanks!

While I am not sure about the answer here, I would guess that most firms do not since they assume the associates they're hiring are honest. Aside from the fact that lying about that sort of stuff is unethical and kind of scummy, why risk lying about something that could get looked into? If you get exposed, you will get blacklisted from all firms from that headhunter (and potentially more, as they all talk to one another).

So you are concerned about whether or not the background checks will confirm grades, actual transcripts, and test scores BUT you are not thinking about (or have already) lying about these.

Not sure what you are trying to accomplish by asking this question, much easier if you get to the punch line. If you are asking about whether or not you should be dishonest about any of this, I’ll go with no, you shouldn’t lie on your application.

Can you confirm if the background check company receives the actual transcript (classes, gpa) or just the academic certification (dates enrolled, confirmation of degree conferral) from the university?

For those who had transcripts verified, did you send the transcripts to your firms personally or were they sent by the institution?

Did you really expect people to believe it’s a “logistics issue” when you are clearing willing to doctor transcripts instead of just explaining the issue to the firm?

From experience, dont lie on this stuff, comes back and bites you much harder. Rounding and light exagerations are fine but don’t fabricate things or outright lie.
