Post-interview call tomorrow, what to expect?

I interviewed last Monday for a PE firm's junior analyst position on their IR team (with everyone including the Director) and got an email from my connect there last night saying that he wanted to "update me on their process" and said Wednesday 8/1 morning would work best for him. I love the firm, the interview went really well and would definitely accept an offer, ideally wouldn't want to start until around Labor day (big move, wanted to take a week long Europe trip).

Just a bit confused because if they were turning me down, I figured it would've just been a simple and polite email saying they were "going another direction" or something, but the verbiage "update me on their process" doesn't exactly sound encouraging. But it's also not like he said he could just chat for 5-10 mins today to turn me down.

Obviously I'm overthinking it a bit, but should I be prepared for salary negotiations on the spot, start dates, etc when I call him tomorrow? Would appreciate any feedback on similar experiences.

If they are updating you on "process" they might be inviting you to the next round.

I've never seen a PE hire after just one interview. For example, for my PE gig, I had four rounds of interviews, including a superday round at the firm's offices that included six interviews.

It's likely a conversation on next steps, but I could be wrong. Good luck!

I was interviewed by all the team members I would be working with directly (4), and the timeline for this would involve a start date before the middle of September.

It's not a standard PE role so I'm 95% sure that was the final round of interviews. Does this change your thoughts?
