Questions about Search Fund

Hey guys! I appreciate any insight from more knowledgeable and experienced fellas in PE than I am, I just have a few questions as an undergrad trying to learn the industry

1) What tools do you recommend using for sourcing and identifying acquisition targets in a certain sector?
2) As someone representing a PE firm, how do you write your cold email to that business owner you just found?
3) [a tiny bit more specific]
Rank these four services within medical gas sector (maintenance, inspection, and repairs) from most to least attractive to invest in from a private equity perspective. Please explain your thought process for your ranking
- Installations
- Annual Inspections
- Repairs
- Product sales

Most Helpful

Serious - I’d try putting this whole thing into ChatGPT.

More serious

1. LinkedIn - because it’s free and this seems like a set of interview questions for a small PE shop or search fund

2. Keep it short. Find something that will connect with the owner. Make it personalized. No mass emails.
3. Recurring revenue first: Annual Inspections / Repairs

then the product because it probably has more margin and you control more of the supply chain

Installations - you very well could be giving this away with 3 and it’s not non recurring
