Asset Management Analyst @ large retail focused REIT Comp?

Like the title suggests have an opportunity fresh out of college to be an AM analyst at a REIT that has roughly a 11-13B market cap.

What can I expect the comp to be on this? Area is right outside nyc so hcol. Also does this pigeon hole me? Thanks and would love any other comments

Based on the most helpful WSO content, compensation for an Asset Management Analyst at a REIT can vary significantly depending on the specific market and the size of the REIT. For a large retail-focused REIT with a market cap around $11-13 billion, especially in a high-cost living area like just outside NYC, you can expect the following compensation structure:

  • Base Salary: Typically, the base salary for an Asset Management Analyst in such a setting could range from $75,000 to $90,000 annually. This is based on the general compensation trends for experienced analysts in asset management roles within major markets.

  • Bonus Potential: Bonuses can vary, but generally, they might range from 10% to 20% of the base salary, depending on the firm's performance and your personal contribution to the team.

Regarding your concern about being pigeonholed, Asset Management, particularly in a sizable and specialized REIT, provides a robust platform for gaining deep insights into the retail real estate sector. While it does specialize your experience, it also makes you highly valuable within that niche. Transitioning later to other areas of real estate or broader finance roles can be facilitated by leveraging the specific skills and insights you gain.

Additionally, working in asset management can open doors to roles in portfolio management, senior financial analysis, or strategic planning within the real estate sector. It's also beneficial for building a network within the industry, which can be crucial for career mobility.

If you have any more questions or need further clarification, feel free to ask. Happy to help!

Iirc Brixmor comps to 70 - 75k base from their recent job posting, only comp I have for a retail REIT.

Just curious - was the role publicly posted and everything? Or did you get the role with the job not being posted?

Wasn’t publicly posted because it didn’t happen yet. I’m there now as an off cycle intern and am thinking about what a return would look like. I’m sure it will be publicly posted for legal reasons
