NYU Schack MS RE
I'm considering NYU's MS Real Estate Program (particularly the Hirsh Fellowship, a 15-20 student cohort within Shack). This would be paid for, and I may work part time.
I'm a 2nd yr analyst coming from a non-target, on a so-so investment sales teams at one of the big brokerage shops (CBRE, NMRK, JLL, CW), I want to boost my resume and expand my network before jumping to the buy-side.
Threshold question, do MS RE students get any traction networking with the undergrad/MBA NYU alum?
Based on the most helpful WSO content, NYU's MS Real Estate Program, particularly the Hirsh Fellowship, is a great choice for expanding your network and boosting your resume. The program has a very large NYC alumni network, which is a big advantage when it comes to networking.
As for your question about networking with undergrad/MBA NYU alum, it's not explicitly mentioned in the WSO threads. However, given the size and reach of the NYU alumni network, it's likely that you would have opportunities to connect with alumni from different programs.
Remember, networking is not just about the program you're in, but also about the effort you put into it. So, go full guerrilla-self-marketing, push hard to stack 2-4 internship opportunities and get creative about your overall search.
And hey, don't forget to have some fun along the way! After all, what's life without a little monkey business?

What about an MBA? Are you in NYC?
Don't really want to take the GMAT and also don't want to being taking Business Administration type classes when I know I'm solely focused on real estate. Also surrounds you with people having the same focus. I am in NYC and this program doesn't force a ton of logistical headaches, which many MBA's would if you don't get into NYU/Columbia and have to relocate.
Don't discount the usefulness of business classes. I wish I had taken some proper accounting and management classes.
I did the NYU MSRE and it was great for a career transitioner to get into the investment side but, requires internships and real work, not just going to class. If you could get into a great MBA I would do that, otherwise shack is great.
If you already have great experience you may be able to just jump to the buy side. If you can't or get laid off I would definitely consider it. Amazing network in Schack grads itself. I didn't interact with stern people at all, got internships solely from other classmates I met, and ended up landing at a top 5 developer in NYC after starting the program with 0 investment/development experience.
Happy to talk about my experience.
Just PM'd you!
Yes they do. Able I’m always a proponent of school, if you’re in NYC investment sales, I’m not sure you’re going to gain much. You should be able to open doors with the role you have. Are you a broker or analyst?
