If I am looking to start recruiting for a full-time hire REGAL group, does anyone have any specific advice? Also, I've heard that some companies recruit generally across the board in IB, then place you into a specific group after. I'm really only interested in REGAL (RE, gaming, and lodging) groups and those similar.

Of the few that I’ve worked at, all are placed into the RE group out of the general analyst program - there’s no RE specific recruiting unless you’re lateral. That being said, RE was never a super popular group like M&A or TMT or anything; so just meet with folks on the team during training, express your interest, and put down that it’s your top preference (most places do a rank system where Analysts put their top 3 groups, groups put top 3 analyst choices and they match them up).
The only time you don’t really have a say, in my experience, is internship. Generally there you just show up and are placed somewhere. At least in my class though, several who interned in one group expressed interest in another and went FT to the new group.
Long story short - I would focus on general analyst recruiting and getting a spot in the class; from there you can network and position yourself fairly easily for the spot. Every firm may do it differently, but that’s been my experience.
