3.2 GPA from Cornell - omit from resume?

I'm a rising sophomore & currently have a 3.2. I know this is really low....should I take this out from my resume? I'm afraid that recruiters will see it and immediately ding me. By the way, I had IBD experience working a boutique this summer.

I would leave it in. If you take it out, I would assume your GPA is under a 3.0 when I look at it. A 3.2 isn't great, but it's not terrible either. Most programs either have cut offs of a 3.0 or a 3.3 if they have a cutoff. If I don't see a GPA, I would just assume it is below my cut off and cast the resume aside. With previous IB experience as a rising soph, leave the GPA in there, and just let them focus on the experience. Make sure to get your GPA up to at least a 3.3 this year, and you'll be fine going forward.

remove the Cornell from your resume. that school name alone will get you dinged. why couldn't you go to a real school like NYU or Baruch or Rutgers?

I'm making it up as I go along.

Haha this must be a joke. Cornell is a great school (I went there), with great recruiting. Rutgers? Honestly did not know what rutgers was before I went to college. Honestly.

Cornelius, I meant to ask, which community college did you attend?

I didn't go to college at all. I'm from the school of hard knocks.

Yes, it was a joke. No shit Cornell is a GOOD school whereas Rutgers/NYU/Baruch are OKAY schools. Great is reserved for the HYP and Columbia's of the world.

But let's stop this right here. Last thing I wanted to do was to start another "Which school produces the best finance douchebags?" post.

We all know that going to Harvard is great but it doesn't make some kid that went to Rutgers worse than him.

To the OP - sorry for the tangent, leave the 3.2 on your resume, amplify your experiences and EC's, and follow the rest of Bank on Banking's advice.

I've been told Cornell has grade deflation, where most of the other ivies have grade inflation. I know its a ridiculous excuse for my GPA, but will recruiters understand?

no the HR recruiters are dumb as shit with 4.0 GPAs from Boston College in philosophy so they only understand deflation in sense of flat tires and botched boob jobs.

banking personnel don't give a fuck either - what differentiates you with the 3.2 versus the kid that sits next to you in your economics class who has a 3.8? For the most part, you are interviewing against kids from your own school. Cornell tends to have a few guaranteed spots at most of the BBs.

do not use that as a reason for the low gpa. have a good reason and show them that the low GPA was a fluctuation in your life and that you have been undergoing a self-correction which will result in/has resulted in higher grades.
