Buy Side Resume Advice

I work as an Analyst in a Corporate investing capacity and am looking for PE opportunities. In my time here, I have closed only one deal (yet to be announced), but have evaluated several investment opportunities and also been involved in detailed diligence (LBO modeling, reading contracts, industry research, etc) for some deals before our internal investment committee rejected them at the last minute. Further, I am currently working on a few live deals, expected to close at the year end. How do I write about the unannounced deal , the live deals I am working on as well as the other deals for which I worked on but did not go through while maintaining confidentiality. Any advice will be highly appreciated.

You are right to be concerned about how to communicate a strong message about your experience while not disclosing any confidential information.

Don't worry about dead deals - 97% deals die. People recruiting you care about experience - so do describe your responsibilities on dead deals.

That's what I would do:

  1. Closed deal:

Completed a $ XXX million investment in a [leading aircraft part manufacturer / hotel chain / name industry ]. Performed financial modelling, led commercial diligence etc etc - list your responsibilities

  1. Dead deals:

Aborted deals at an advanced stage include:

a) Project Violet - $xx million leveraged buyout of a [leading fashion brand]. List responsibilities

b) Project Blue - $xx million convertible preferred investment in a [iron ore miner]. List responsibilities

Good luck,

Tamara

Tamara- thank you for the response! Do you recommend listing down my typical responsibilities for each deal? If so, wouldn't that make it sound generic? For example, build detailed proforma models incorporating LBOs etc, reviewed contracts, etc
