Please, roast my CV! Non-target, a bit weird background, first internship

Dear Monkeys, please roast my CV. Complicated background, so I desperately need some experience in finance.

I apply anywhere, from spring insight programs in BB to smallest local boutiques in Europe, Asia and US.

(You would ask, why have I transferred from UK uni to Korea? Well, family and personal circumstances I could not change).

Not a bad CV. It should be combined with some networking to land SA or FT roles but for now I would say the main points are:

  • Give a bit more context to the IB (what the total achievable score is) and list the subjects you got 7s in or your HL subjects

  • Note the number of speakers you organised chats with at the UK uni business society and say the approximate attendance

  • For computer skills, you can simply put the Office suite

  • Quantify the number of students you taught English to as a tutor

  • For the non-for-profit in the UK, see if you can find information of the impact of the research you contributed to (perhaps contact the person you worked with)

  • For the UK uni, put the grade you were on track to receive as a final degree (based on your 3.8 GPA in Seoul, I assume it was a First). Alternatively, put the average grade you got from the final exams in those two years and highlight high scoring subjects e.g. Economics for Business (88%).

Sorry if the advice jumps around your CV, I wrote as they came to mind.

“Interests: Indian Philosophy, strange stocks”

I just find those to be odd. Bankers look at your interest section to see if you’re a person they could shoot the shit with, and I don’t know anyone who wants to drink beers and debate about ghandi after work. Throw in your favorite football/soccer team and something else. With martial arts, say if it’s BJJ, Muay Thai, or something of the like. You’d be surprised how you might make a connection through it.

Thank you very much, I will add more details in regards to martial arts. Actually, I even didn't think that Indian philosophy may be a turn-off. I thought it will show that I love finance, but I am not intellectually limited to it. I am female, so I am not that into football. Maybe tennis, skiing or gym will work?
