I don't know much about NYU's program.

I applied for UMD's Applied Econ and JHU's Applied Econ.
Neither of them require GRE
UMD is cheaper than JHU

I chose UMD. I didn't have a good experience and dropped out after 1 semester. It is a CASH COW program. No placements. Courses weren't taught well. Overall a mess. I expect the same from JHU's Applied Econ. Also their admissions was a joke. I had bare minimum requirements and they accept everyone. As long as you are bringing in $$ - you are accepted.

Also JHU has 2 ECON programs. 1) No GRE - Applied Econ from their Arts & Sciences school. 2) SAIS - Master of International Economics and Finance. Required GRE.

SAIS is a well-respected school at JHU. So if you want to pursue a well-respected program, I advise you to take your GRE and go for the SAIS one.

Hopkins' Economics brand > NYU's Economics brand?

Anecdotes or via some independent ranking source?

Thanks for your input!

Ask any random person what the better school is, Hopkins or NYU. For master’s level programs like the Econ degree, they’re all cash cow programs. You are essentially paying for the name. Hopkins has a better one. It would be different if we were talking about MBA’s, but Hopkins is going to open more doors than NYU in most cases.

Also, IME absolutely no one really knows or cares about master’s level Econ rankings.
