Pro basketball player in Asia -> MBA

Played D1 at a t10 and have a stem major, went to play in Asia afterwards. I've been here a couple years, and am having a great time.

However, the league I'm in is insufficiently competitive so I'm kind of losing my passion for the game. Also, the pay is great for where I'm located, but not much relative to the NBA. So, I would definitely need some sort of career afterward especially if I were to head back.

Some post-basketball careers I've seen where I'm at is modeling, acting, social media, local corporate although still in Asia. Some former basketball player here worked decades at a global f500 company here and is now head of Asia. There's also a really big former basketball player model that I know, but he's extremely good-looking.

I'm kind of seeing the writing on the wall, and I would rather pivot earlier than later on as pay looks to be pretty stagnant even though it hurts me to say. I have more ambitions than what I believe is possible where I am right now.

What business schools would be open to my background? ~3.0 gpa as I didn't prioritize my time here. I took my first practice gmat and scored a 700. I'll be targeting a 760+ when I start studying to hopefully make up for my gpa deficit.

What post-MBA industries are open to someone like me? I'm looking to rebrand myself and hustle, maybe eventually finding myself back into the sports industry after a while

Consider that MBA programs are relatively background agnostic, they are all open to your background.
700 practice score GMAT is a great start. I think the D1 helps overshadow the 3.0, and then playing pro afterwards even more so.

Most industries are open to you. Hedgefunds, and PE, probably not but they aren't open to many others either.
Traditional exits are IB and consulting. Past that, tech, corp strategy/finance, leadership development programs, entertainment/media etc. Anything really.

I haven't come across a pro sports player, but you could look up Missy Jenkins on Linkedin who spoke at a zoom event I attended. School teacher > darden mba > mbb consulting > vp at the washington nats maybe a path like that interests you.  Also Nicholas Latifi F1 driver at LBS, off the top of my head.

If you want to do something sports like, look up MIT Sports Analytics Conference. Some from my MBA (Duke) went down that path. Can be more on marketing side. Couple actually landed in front office roles in NBA teams. Two main considerations

- Early stages of career very low pay (compared to banking / consulting)

- Recruiting is very one off / networking heavy

Otherwise, banking / consulting, etc. don’t mind (probably loves)ex-atheletes as long as you can get through the interviews
