HF Sinclair Rotational Trading Program - Insight?
In the process for this program at this refinery - HF Sinclair. Is anyone familiar with their rotational program? Would it be conducive to becoming a trader there or moving on to a supermajor TDP or potentially to a merchant house? The rotations move across crude / refined products scheduling and trade support as well as branded marketing and optimization.
Bump
Yes, this is exactly the type of role that is the start of a trading career. I'm not familiar with the program but whatever they have you learning/doing will be foundational to future trading opportunities.
They actually have a sizable refining asset base after the merger between hf and Sinclair. Bigger than BP or Shell in North America nowadays on that metric. I would think trading for them means sourcing for their own refineries, like a smaller version of Valero. If you have an offer there and nothing better, sure why not take it.
Would you recommend staying there or trying to leverage that for a TDP like the one at Shell?
Would definitely recommend BP/Shell if you can switch a few years in. It puts you on an entirely different trajectory- spec, 3rd party, international- than a pure system trader for a refinery. It’s not uncommon for the majors to hire any analyst/TDP talent from any relevant job so it’s certainly possible.
What about grad programs at the trade shops? You think they stack up against bp/shell or still worth trying to move over?
